The Boarding School Experience at Lyndon Institute
Lyndon Institute has been a "home away from home" for American and international students since the 1800's. The five residence halls on or near Vail Green provide safe, comfortable places to live and learn.
Lyndon has one Dorm Parent for every six students, a ratio that puts it in the top ranks of boarding schools. Most importantly it means that every student has a person to turn to for help with homework or advice about courses or future college choices. Dorm parents know and care about each student who lives with them. Dorm Parents and their families (including pets) are important parts of dorm life at Lyndon Institute.
Most students live in single rooms which are equipped with high-speed computer connections. Communal computer workstations are available as well. Library and dining facilities are in the Main Building and campus facilities for exercise and other recreational activities are available to all Lyndon Institute students.
Full-time or 5-day boarding options are available.
Beyond the Classroom
To get the most from life at Lyndon, Dorm Parents encourage students to become involved in extracurricular activities - sports, student government, and clubs. Friendships with day students and community service can lead to build life-long relationships with the school and its community. Dorm parents hope the students will see themselves as Lyndon Institute students first, and boarding students second.
Boarding students sample the diverse natural and cultural world of northeastern Vermont and New England. Weekend activities include:
Shopping trips to Boston or Holyoke, Massachusetts; North Conway and Manchester, New Hampshire; Freeport, Maine; and Burlington, Vermont
Skiing, hiking, canoeing, fishing, biking, snowshoeing, and swimming at nearby recreational areas;
attending plays, dance performances, and concerts in the region;
visiting museums, state and national historic sites, and nearby colleges
There is also time to visit an amusement park, to navigate a corn maze, watch the Harlem Globetrotters, go to the movies, bowl, relaxing by a bon fire, and take part in the annual pumpkin carving party.
Lyndon offers a rich personal experience for boarding students. For each student there is the opportunity for excellence in a secure, caring environment.
