At Lyndon Institute, the College/Career Center helps students manage all aspects of the college application process. Once you have decided on the schools you want to apply to, you need to do the following:
- Stop by the Career/College Center to set up files for each of the colleges.
- International students and their parents should review the College Application Guide for International Students.
- Decide on a paper application (Common Application or school-specific application) or an online application. A list will be kept of all the components you will need to complete the application (testing, fee, supplements, essay, recommendations, transcripts, CSS-Profile, etc).
- Get recommendation sheets for your teachers. These recommendations will be turned in by the teachers to the Career/College Center to be included with your application mailing. Make sure you give teachers plenty of time before the application deadline to complete this work.
- Begin working on your application and essay. Make sure a teacher, parent, or the College/Career Center proofreads both documents. If you want to file your application or essay online, we recommend you do it from the College/Career office. If you complete your application online from home, we will need you to print out a hard-copy for your file.
- Pay attention to deadlines. Do not wait until the last minute. The College/Career Center needs at least a week before a deadline to compile your materials. Pay special attention to application deadlines that fall within the Christmas break. These applications need to be completed at least one week before the vacation.
- Your completed application will be packaged in a Lyndon Institute folder along with a school profile. LI pays the postage necessary to send out student application materials. We also include a self-addressed, stamped postcard which is returned to us verifying that the college has received your completed application.
