At Lyndon Institute art is a unifying language and through serious application students learn freedom of expression and a lifelong commitment to the visual arts. Working in a studio-like environment in the Norris Arts Center, students begin with Art 1 to build a foundation in drawing and color techniques. They can go on to explore painting, printmaking, surface design, digital design, book arts and photography.
Students who wish to focus their talents and energies toward serious training in the arts over four years are able to prepare for an arts major or studies at the college level. The Advanced Art Honors course allows highly-motivated students to prepare a portfolio that is submitted for Advanced Placement credit. Students are encouraged to submit their work in competitions such as the Congressional Art contest and the VSAC poster competition.
Student work is incorporated in Janus, the school's literary and art magazine; appears throughout the year in the Norris Art Center Gallery and is highlighted in an end-of-year exhibit.
Lyndon Institute graduates have gone on to attend the Chicago Art Institute, the Savannah College of Art and Design, the Maryland Institute of Art and other nationally-recognized programs.
