General CLUB INFORMATION:
Dance Clubs will meet for assigned times during the school year.
DANCE CLUB - contemporary focus
Students at Lyndon Institute are able to join dance club whether they are/are not enrolled in a dance class. In dance club, students will learn about their body and safe movement practices and gain experience in a particular style/genre of dance and create a choreography to be performed at the winter and spring recitals. This club meets in the Town House weekly.
TAP CLUB
Students at Lyndon Institute are able to join tap club whether they have/have not tapped before. Students in tap club will play with percussive body movement, gain a better understanding of tempo and musicality, and create a choreography with tap terminology to be performed in the winter and spring recitals. This club meets in the Town House weekly.
Immersive Dance CLUB
Students at Lyndon Institute are able to join Immersive Dance club whether they have/have not danced before. Students in this club will explore movement in relation to unique costuming, props, technology/materials, etc. and create choreography fusing dance with various art/technological forms to be performed in the winter and spring recitals. This club meets in the Town House weekly.
POINTE CLUB
Students at Lyndon Institute who have solid foundation in ballet techniques have the opportunity to join pointe club. In this club students execute combinations at the barre and in the center to enhance their technical skills and work on choreography in classical pointe style as well as more contemporary approaches on pointe. Choreography set in the fall semester will be performed in the winter recital and choreography set in the spring semester will be performed in the spring recital.
HIP HOP CLUB
Students at Lyndon Institute have the opportunity to study some forms of hip hop/break dance in their fall curriculum but as an extension of this work, also have the opportunity to join hip hop club after school if they so choose. In hip hop, students can tailor the styles of hip hop they are interested into a group choreography. This club meets in the Town House weekly. See the schedule attached.
Dance majors & nhsda:
NHSDA (National Honor Society for Dance Arts) - The goals of NHSDA are to promote a desire for life-long learning in the field of dance and to encourage an understanding of and appreciation for dance as an artform as well as develop knowledge audiences for the future.
Students who plan to engage in dance throughout high school and possibly use dance in college or as a career and students will also have the opportunity to work towards obtaining their LI Fine/Performing Arts Diploma in Dance as part of the school’s differentiated diploma track
Roles, expectations and activities of the dance majors at LI:
Year round - Meet requirements and fulfill NHSDA duties
Year round – participate in at least 2 dance labs
Sept/Oct - Participate in and create work for the fall Dance Walk & Big Game Half Time Show
Oct - Attend the Dance Walk, virtual dance college night organized by McG, Big Game performance
Nov - Develop and help run activities and events for Love Your Body Week (paint for expression, etc.)
Nov – Participate in and assist with the annual VT State Dance Festival
Dec/Jan - Choice activities
Feb/Mar – Participate in and help run after school dance programming
Mar/Apr - Participate in and create work for the Student Dance Showcase
April - Develop and help run activities and events for National Dance Week (10 min photo challenge, flashmob…)
May - Develop curriculum for summer programming, summer dance camp, or an athlete training day toolkit and provide 2-3 workshops for athletes to work with dancers on learning how to become a more versatile mover on the court, field, track, etc.
July - Participate in/assist/choreograph for Summer Dance Camp week-long intensive
