The Importance of Being Earnest
April 1st, 2018
Oscar Wilde’s classic Comedy of Manners, The Importance of Being Earnest, made an appearance on the Lyndon Institute Theater Company stage in March. The story unfolded in 1890s England, when two young bachelors took to bending the truth about their identities to add excitement to their lives. Jack Worthing invented a brother, Ernest, whom he used as an excuse to leave his dull life in the country and visit the lovely Gwendolen in London. Algernon Moncrieff, Jack’s close friend and confidant, assumed the name of Ernest in order to meet Jack’s young and beautiful ward, Cecily, at the country manor. Things went awry when they came together in the country, and their deceptions were discovered, threatening to spoil their romantic pursuits.
With Artistic Direction by Lyndon Institute’s Theater Company Director, Laura Wayne, this production featured the talented young actors and technicians at Lyndon Institute who tackled the stylized comedy with extraordinary aptitude.
