Lyndon Institute Seeks Improvements to the Alumni Gymnasium

August 20th, 2019

Lyndon Institute has recently informed former participants and parents of former players of an opportunity to continue to strengthen the performance of our basketball teams through a facility update.  Lyndon Institute has recently won our first-ever boys and girls state championship titles! The boys in 2014 under the leadership of Coach Guckin, then a second championship in 2016 under the leadership of Coach Joyal and the girls in 2017 under the leadership of Coach Berry.  We are very proud of the achievements of our young men and women.

Particularly impressive are these championships given the fact that the Alumni gym has needed some improvements.  The floor system needs to be updated given that it is 54 years old. We’re looking at a flooring system that will have nearly a 50% shock absorption rate.  A floor with the correct absorption rate will absorb the vibration and shock to the joints in the body. Our goal is to raise $125,000 to replace the flooring, sound system, and railing that goes above Alumni gymnasium.  If we exceed our goal, we will consider adding a “team room” for players and coaches which will allow for video review of games, practices, and individual training.

You’re always welcome on campus.  If you’d like to set up a meeting to tour the alumni gymnasium, please reach out to Athletic Director, Eric Berry, at 535-3760.

No matter how many times I go into the gymnasium, I am always moved by the number of state championship banners, as well as a few New England championship banners. The school has a long tradition of excellence in the classroom and in athletics. I am glad to help support this needed improvement.
