LI Student Named 2020 Presidential Scholars in CTE Nominee

December 20th, 2019

Lyndon Institute is proud to announce that senior Emily Sherman has been selected as one of Vermont's five nominees for the 2020 Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. These students are selected based on their outstanding scholarship and service to their communities. Emily is currently enrolled in Lyndon Institute’s graphic design program, an important part of its CTE program.

According to the U.S. Department of Education’s website, The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by executive order of the President to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

Emily will be recognized at a ceremony and reception to be held at the Vermont State House on Monday, January 13, 2020, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. and is now invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
