Online Learning Exercise March 12 & March 13, 2020

March 10th, 2020

Dear Students and Families:

As you know, we are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation regarding the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.  In addition to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and our community, we are also dedicated to ensuring that our students are able to continue with their education in the event of a prolonged school closure.

Our faculty and administration have been making plans to provide online learning in the event of such a closure.  In order to prepare for this possibility, our teachers will make a concerted effort to essentially run their classes online through Schoology, LI’s learning management system, on Thursday, March 12, with students present in classrooms.  On Friday, March 13, our teachers will once again offer their classes online.  Students, however, will not attend classes at LI but will instead complete their work at home or some other location.

The purpose for this exercise is to test-run how well equipped our teachers and students are to perform in an online environment.  We would like to take the time to now plan for a possible closing in the event that we need to close in the future.  For those students without a reliable internet connection at home, we will be happy to provide them with materials in advance on Thursday that should be completed on Friday and brought back to school to be assessed.

With all that being said, I must stress that there are no cases of COVID-19 within our community.  The purpose of this exercise for Thursday and Friday classes is purely about preparation and will likely serve as a valuable learning opportunity for everyone involved.

Sincerely,

Twiladawn Perry
Head of School
