Lyndon Institute
An independent day and boarding school for grades 9 - 12 located in northeastern Vermont

Sam Critchlow - Head Coach

With Burke Mountain Resort only 10 minutes away, Lyndon Institute is an ideal school to develop as a snowboarder. The Lyndon Institute Snowboarding Team travels regularly to a variety of competitions and events throughout New England, including Burke Mountain Resort, Stowe Resort, Cannon Mountain, Okemo Mountain, and Bretton Woods Ski Resort.

Lyndon fields a full team in the Vermont High School Snowboard Series, and Vermont is one of only two states to offer interscholastic snowboarding as a varsity sport. Riders can compete in slopestyle (freestyle/park), giant slalom (racing), and halfpipe events, earning both individual and team recognition. All levels of riders are invited to participate at the club level, with varsity-level participation available for athletes willing to commit to a regular practice and competition schedule. With weekend practices and flexible competitions, it is possible for athletes to participate in snowboarding and an additional winter sport. In recent years LI snowboarders have won numerous individual accolades, including the Women’s Slopestyle Individual State Championship in 2013-14.

Sam Critchlow has coached snowboarding at Lyndon Institute for four years. Prior to this he coached at White Mountain School in Bethlehem, NH, and taught backcountry skiing and riding in Colorado. He is a lifetime snowboarder, and former ski patroller and backcountry guide.
