CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt; 10-month (August-May)
TIME: Part-time: 20 hours/week
SUPERVISOR: Head of SchoolSUMMARY: The Outdoor Adventure Director will oversee creating, planning, and promoting opportunities for Lyndon Institute (LI) students to enjoy outdoor recreation regularly. Programming can be during or after the school day, large and/or small groups, in coordination with classes and curricula or not. S/he will lead a volunteer committee of educators and staff at LI to achieve these goals and to define this program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, organizes, and conducts recreation programming including outdoor education, overnight camping trips, leisure education, experiential education activities, and day trips.
- Plans for and leads such activities as nordic ski, snowshoe, canoe, lead team building activities, ropes course facilitation, natural science and wildlife education, mountain biking, hiking, explore outdoors, fishing, stalking, practicing survival skills, and crafts
- Leads the volunteer Outdoor Adventure Committee for ideas, implementation support, and community integration of efforts
- May also collaborate with Outdoor Recreation and Land and Resource Management programs to include relevant activities
- Responsible for assuring the safety and proper maintenance of any equipment as it is used for activities
- Assists faculty with planning and executing like programming
- Oversees all aspects of planning: brainstorming, logistics, communication, safety training, and execution
- Partner with local area resources for mutual benefit (Outing Club, the Mountain, etc.)
- Manage outdoors equipment inventory
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field preferred;
- Minimum of one year experience working with children or adolescents in a recreational/activity setting; background, knowledge, and skills in a variety of outdoor recreation activities; commensurate industry experience is preferred
- Appropriate certification in areas of speciality and eligibility for additional training in other areas as deemed necessary. Such certification could include Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, or Wilderness First Responder
- Valid driver’s license required. Candidate must obtain School Bus endorsed license (LI to pay applicable fees)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift up to 60 pounds. Able to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to hike long distances and at times run for short distances over rough terrain. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, that will enable him/her to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients in outdoor activities. It is understood that activities take place in a wide variety of conditions, often inclement, and require the ability to function effectively in such an environment.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinates activities with regard to practice, participation in all competitions and other events as assigned by the Director of Athletics
- Be available weekdays from 3:30 pm on (depending on practice and game times), and on weekends as needed
- Responsible for individual and team stats per game/seasons
- Plan and work with the Director of Athletics and the VP for External Relations and Advancement for fundraising opportunities
- Create and work with the Director of Athletics on summer and team camps
Requirements: - Must be a Vermont Principals Assoc. (VPA) certified coach and have completed all VPA-required certifications with NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) as well as CPR/AED certification
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals, rules, and regulations essential to building a successful basketball program
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of fitness and training for the sport
- Able to work well with the coaching staff, administration, students, parents, and the community
- Be of sound mind and judgment and have an understanding that athletics is an extension of the classroom and that we are looking for great leaders to mentor our athletes in becoming great, successful individuals in society
- Follow and uphold all LI policies and procedures and create a team atmosphere that is built around the history and culture of LI

Requirements: Qualified applicants should possess a BS in Science. An ideal candidate will have teaching experience in Environmental Science and the operation of labs. Experience using Canvas LMS is a plus. Teaching licensure is not required.
