Football - Varsity
2025 - 2026Head Coach: Colin WellsLyndon Institute competes in Vermont’s Division II football league, fielding both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams to ensure every student-athlete has the opportunity to play and grow in the sport. Our season runs from early August through mid-November, featuring eight regular-season games with the potential for three playoff matchups.
The LI football program has a proud tradition of success, having captured four state championships (1921, 1933, 1966, and 1997). Most recently, in 2013, we were League Champions and State Runners-Up. Beyond our on-field achievements, we are especially proud of our deep-rooted culture of school spirit and community involvement.
One of the cornerstones of this tradition is our historic rivalry known as "The Big Game." This matchup has been played nearly every year since 1894, making it one of the oldest high school football rivalries in the nation. The event continues to draw thousands of fans annually, bringing together alumni, families, and community supporters.
Colin Wells returns for his second year as Head Coach of LI in 2026. He brings 21 years of coaching experience, beginning his career in 2005 at Hopatcong High School in Hopatcong, NJ. In 2012 he relocated to Tennessee and coached at Oakland Middle School, Franklin High School, and Nolensville High School. Over the years, Wells has served as a high school Defensive Coordinator, a middle school Head Coach, and in several position-specific roles. His experience and leadership build on LI football’s proud history as the program works toward an even stronger future.
