  • 5. International Students Only - VISA

If you are an international student, a letter from your bank or a bank statement must be received indicating access to the required funds needed for full tuition payment before your I-20 will be issued.

You must use the Form I-20 provided by Lyndon Institute to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and apply for the correct student visa. Be sure to check your Form I-20 against your passport information to make sure your name and date of birth (DOB) are spelled and listed correctly. If any of this information needs to be corrected, you should notify the Lyndon Institute Admissions office and a corrected Form I-20 will be issued to you. The SEVIS  I-901 fee is a requirement for all students seeking to enter the United States under F visas (Lyndon Institute students are issued F1 visas).

For more information regarding visas please visit travel.state.gov

After being accepted by Lyndon Institute and getting a receipt for payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee, you can apply for a visa at a U.S. Embassy or consulate. The following information is to serve as a guide, however, you should check the U.S. Department of State's website for the most current information.

Students should note that the student visa can be issued by the U.S. Embassy or consulate 120 days or less in advance of the date you will attend Lyndon Institute. You may apply more than 120 days in advance of your start date but the issuing agency will hold your visa until it is able to issue it to you.

Students should also note that the Department of Homeland Security regulations prohibit students coming to the United States for their initial time from entering any earlier than 30 days before their start date. This is important when making travel arrangements.

An interview is part of the application process for obtaining a student visa. Early application is encouraged as the waiting time for interviews can vary.

The required documents that must be submitted in order to be issued a student visa are:
    • Form I-20
    • DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application
    • Passport (valid for 6 months beyond your expected stay)
    • One (1) 2”x2” photograph
    • Receipt to prove payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee
All applicants should also be prepared to provide your Lyndon Institute Acceptance Package, containing:
    • Transcripts
    • Scores from standardized tests such as TOEFL
    • Financial evidence that you have sufficient funds to cover the cost of tuition
    • Letter of Acceptance from Lyndon Institute

Travel

Before you depart for the United States, you should familiarize yourself with your important travel documents. You should also make a minimum of two copies of each of these documents: one to give to Lyndon Institute Admissions Office and one to leave with your family. These documents should always be on your person, do not pack them into a checked bag. Here is a list of the vital documents:
  • Passport
  • Form I-20
  • Visa
  • Lyndon Institute Phone Numbers (last page in your Information packet)
It is also good practice to travel with the following documents:
  • Financial statement
  • SEVIS I-901 receipt
  • Letter of Acceptance
  • Any other documents necessary for issuance of visa
You will receive a Form I-94 onboard your flight entering the United States. This document will be stamped at entry and proves that you entered the United States legally. It also states how long you can legally remain in the United States. It is very important to present your I-94 to the Lyndon Institute Admissions Office upon your arrival so Lyndon Institute can have a copy on file.

Once you have made your travel arrangements, you should submit your arrival information to our Residential Program Coordinator, Bonnie Kirchoff, at bonnie.kirchoff@lyndoninstitute.org.
