About

Welcome From Our Head of School

Welcome!

Greetings Future Viking families!

You might be asking yourself: “Why should I choose LI?” The answer is simple: because YOU matter here.

At Lyndon Institute, high school isn’t just something you go through - it’s something you shape. Every day, more than 400 students from across the Northeast Kingdom and around the world bring their ideas, energy, and passions to campus. Together with more than 100 caring and dedicated faculty and staff, they create a community that is more like a family - one that celebrates individuality while helping each student grow in confidence, purpose, and joy.

LI is a place where curiosity comes alive. Our hands-on academic program includes standard, honors, and AP courses, as well as our one-of-a-kind J-Term — three weeks of hands-on, exploratory classes that spark new skills, passions, and friendships. We also provide every student with a college and career counselor to help chart their next steps, whether that’s college, career, or something yet to be discovered.

Beyond the classroom, LI offers more than 20 athletic teams, 30+ student-led clubs and activities, and vibrant opportunities in the visual and performing arts. Students can design sets, star on stage, travel abroad, lead organizations, or compete at the highest levels of their sport — all while being supported and encouraged to find their own version of success.

But what truly makes LI unique is the people. We’ve been part of the Kingdom for more than 155 years, and through every generation, one truth remains: there’s no single definition of success here. We don’t expect anyone to look the same, learn the same, or dream the same. Instead, we provide multiple pathways for students to explore who they are, dive deep into what they love, and build the future that inspires them most.

High school is not just four years — it’s the beginning of a lifelong journey. When you join LI, you don’t just become a Viking during your high school years — you become part of a legacy and a community that lasts a lifetime.

I can’t wait to see the ideas, energy, and spirit you will bring to Lyndon Institute. As exciting as LI is today, it will be even brighter tomorrow when you are here.

With excitement and anticipation,

Dr. Brian D. Bloomfield
Head of School
