  • Bus Driver

    JOB TITLE: BUS DRIVER
    PAY RANGE: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour worked
    REPORTING/ DEPARTMENT: Transportation Director, Maintenance Director, Operations Director/Transportation/Maintenance
    JOB SUMMARY: Transport students, faculty and staff, alumni, or campus visitors. Ensure adherence to safety rules. May assist passengers with boarding or exiting the bus.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACTIVITIES:
    • Drive gasoline, diesel, or electrically powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students and other riders for school and extra-curricular activities.
    • Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. (Pre and post inspection as required by law)
    • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.
    • Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
    • Follow safety rules and Vermont State SchoolBus Regulations as students or other riders are boarding and exiting buses, and as they cross streets.
    • Maintain order among students during trips, in order to ensure safety. Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving conflicts.
    • Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, tolls and other expenses.
    • Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures and safety certifications as required by the school; may need to provide personal assistance or medical attention to passengers
    • Keep bus interiors clean for passengers and present a positive school image.
    • During non-peak driving periods, this position will assist the maintenance department witha ppropriate tasks.
    The Head of School reserves the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective transportation operations that protect people and property.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits.
    • Physical Abilities: such as excellent depth perception, reaction time, far vision, spatial orientation, and the ability to concentrate without distraction. Able to lift heavy objects, such as luggage, up to 50 lbs.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
     

    A high school diploma required; relevant vocational training or job-related coursework is a plus. 

    Holding a valid CDL with bus driver endorsement in the State of Vermont is strongly preferred, but the school will support on-the-job training to earn licensure or to re-certify. At least three years of direct work-related experience driving school buses is preferred.

    BACKGROUND CHECK AND FINGERPRINTING: 

    Candidates must pass a DOT physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and a National CDL records check conducted by a third-party vendor. The school conducts criminal and motor vehicle record checks on all candidates that are offered employment and we reserve the right to investigate fully any criminal or motor vehicle offense.   • Dorm Support Staff

    Position Title: Dorm Support Staff
     
    Reports To: Lead Dorm Parent, Director of Residential Life
     
    Hours: 15–20 hours per week

    Compensation: Hourly wage commensurate with experience ($16-$18/hr); on-campus housing may be included as part of the compensation package.

    Position Overview: Lyndon Institute is seeking a responsible, caring, and energetic individual to join our Residential Life team as a Dorm Support Staff member. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and engaging residential environment for our boarding students.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Provide dorm coverage and supervision during assigned shifts
    • Support the well-being and daily routines of residential students
    • Supervise student trips, outings, and on-campus activities
    • Provide local transportation for students as needed (using school vehicles)
    • Assist with maintaining a positive dorm community and upholding residential policies
    • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors
    Qualifications:

    Summary:
    Our academic program emphasizes project and Inquiry-Based Learning and utilizes both transferable skills and departmental proficiencies. We seek individuals who are capable of contributing to a collaborative approach to instruction and curriculum development through continued reflection and revision. Teachers must be adept at connecting with a range of students, including accommodating and differentiating both instruction and assessment.   • Maintenance Technician

    Lyndon Institute is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician to join our team.  The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and repairing equipment and facilities to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently.

    This position is full time, working 40 hours per week, and will be eligible for all benefits including vacation time, PTO, holidays, medical, dental, vision insurance, and 401k with company match.

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on building systems, equipment, and grounds.
    • Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry issues.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, work orders, and emergency calls.
    • Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance records in good working order.
    • Assist with installation, assembly, or modifications of equipment and systems.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
    • Collaborate with the supervisor and other staff as needed.
    • Support facility improvement projects and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and functional work environment.
    Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred.

    • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems is preferred.

  • Teacher - Driver's Education

    SALARY RANGE: $34,340 - $62,519 (Bachelor's level) $38,178 - $66,256 (Master's level)

    Job Summary:     
    Reporting to the Director of CTE and the Academic Dean and working collaboratively with faculty and staff, the Driver’s Education Instructor is responsible for teaching students the necessary skills and knowledge to become safe and responsible drivers. This role involves both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. 
    Duties, Responsibilities and Specific Requirements:
    • Classroom Instruction:
      • Teach students about road safety, traffic laws, and defensive driving techniques.
      • Provide clear explanations of the rules of the road, signs, signals, and markings.
      • Educate students about the mechanics of driving, including vehicle operation and maintenance basics.
      • Prepare and deliver lessons based on the state’s curriculum and regulations.
    • Behind-the-Wheel Training:
      • Supervise students during in-car driving lessons, ensuring safety and proper driving techniques.
      • Offer constructive feedback and guidance to students on handling a vehicle, making turns, parallel parking, merging, and other driving skills.
      • Monitor students’ progress, assess their abilities, and provide tailored instructions to help improve driving performance.
    • Assessment and Evaluation:
      • Administer written and practical exams to assess student knowledge and driving ability.
      • Provide progress reports to students and their parents or guardians, if applicable.
      • Track attendance and performance data.
    • Safety and Compliance:
      • Ensure all driving sessions are conducted in a safe, controlled environment, following traffic laws, school policies, and state regulations.
      • Maintain a safe and clean vehicle and classroom.
      • Manage any emergency situations or accidents according to the school or program's safety protocols.
    • Communication:
      • Establish and maintain open communication with students and their families, addressing any questions or concerns.

    Skills and Qualifications:
    • Education & Certification:
