The Adult Career and Technical Education Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) program at Lyndon Institute has been offered and taught since October 2009. LNAs provide basic nursing care in assisting others with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and obtaining vital signs as well as many other tasks. LNAs may work in long-term care facilities, hospitals, home health agencies, schools, private care settings, etc.
Vermont Board of Nursing (VBON) must approve our program on a bi-annual schedule. We must meet stringent expectations as well. The VBON evaluates the effectiveness of our LNA program by analyzing data collected after students have completed the two-part State Licensing Test and been licensed. Our LNA program at Lyndon Institute has been congratulated by the VBON for achieving a first-time pass rate of greater than 80% over the last decade.
The VBON LNA testing consists of a skills portion where the student must demonstrate minimum competency in performing basic LNA skills and a then a written portion. We provide our LNA students with up to 3 opportunities to pass the state licensing test. The student must pass both portions of the VBON LNA tests before they are officially certified as an LNA.
The Lyndon Institute Adult Career and Technical Education LNA program partners with area agencies as well. They include but are not limited to: St. Johnsbury Health & Rehabilitation Center, Pines Rehabilitation & Health Center, Canterbury Inn, Riverside Life Enrichment Center, and Caledonia Home Health. Many of our licensed LNA students can be found working in our partner agencies and/or in the private care setting.
