Signature Programs

Philosophy Statement: We believe that every individual possesses the potential to positively impact the world. Through rich classroom and hands-on learning experiences, students actively engage with and learn from the world around them. We emphasize the development of transferable skills in order to empower students to navigate and contribute meaningfully to their communities.  Our approach values inclusive, dynamic, hand-crafted learning experiences that encourage students to not only absorb knowledge but also to apply it in practical, innovative ways. We demonstrate this through a unifying focus on transferable skills and productive learning as the underpinning of each student’s experience.

See below, six strategic priorities and focused opportunities for students to apply their learning in authentic and purposeful ways.

  • Move the Model: Productive Learning

At LI, learning goes beyond lectures. Our Productive Learning model blends traditional instruction with applied, hands-on experiences. Students don’t just memorize—they build, create, and design projects that demonstrate both growth and achievement. Assessments emphasize creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, giving students a deeper, more practical understanding of their education.

This approach ties directly to LI’s Portrait of a Graduate—clear communication, self-direction, community engagement, problem-solving, and collaboration. By applying these transferable skills in real-world contexts, students learn how knowledge translates to the workplace, setting the stage for future partnerships with industry and community. • Vail Scholars / LI Honors

Vail Scholars is designed for motivated, curious, and socially conscious students who want to excel academically while cultivating leadership and purpose. This honors track emphasizes independent inquiry, reflection, and experiences - both local and global -  that enrich learning beyond the classroom. Faculty mentors bring relevant, current research expertise, guiding students as they synthesize knowledge, service, and personal values into a clear vision for their future. Graduates earn an LI diploma with Honors endorsement.
  • Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Connecting learning to Careers. LI’s CTE program connects students with industry leaders and real-world experience. Partnership and collaboration with the Manufacturing Consortium members Vermont Aerospace, AgriMark/Cabot, Momentum, and several others,  give students direct pathways to careers. Programs provide relevant skills and sought-after certifications such as LEAN Six Sigma, Certified Production Technician, and Project Management. Graduates earn an LI diploma with CTE endorsement, ready to enter the workforce or pursue further education.

Adult Education: Our adult education center supports both workforce training and lifelong learning. With the region’s only public Innovation/Maker Space, we offer vocational classes that prepare adults for new careers in local industries, as well as enrichment courses for personal and professional growth.
  • Fine & Performing Arts

The arts at LI foster creativity, collaboration, and cultural literacy. Through visual arts, dance, music, drama, and interdisciplinary projects, students learn by creating and showcasing their work to both campus and the wider community. From painting and ceramics to welding and woodworking, students explore diverse media. Our Artist-in-Residence program connects them with practicing artists who share their craft and perspective.
