The Yellow Wallpaper

Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story came to life on the Lyndon Institute Theater Company stage in the original play The Yellow Wallpaper.  The production, Lyndon Institute’s entry into the Vermont Regional Drama Festival, told the story of a woman confined to a room after suffering a miscarriage in 1896, by her physician husband, John, to allow for rest and recuperation. Visited and tended to only by her spinster sister-in-law, Jennie, and occasionally her husband, the woman slowly devolves into madness. Her belief that there is salvation in the garish yellow wallpaper of the former nursery is the only thing that gives her hope and ultimately leads to her mental destruction. Not all is silent in the halls of those who are trapped.

With Artistic Direction provided by Lyndon Institute’s Theater Company Director, Laura Wayne, the production featured the talented young actors and technicians at Lyndon Institute tackling advanced dramatic material with sincerity, thoughtfulness, and skill.
